How to Clean a Glass Carb Cap

Remove the cap only when it is safe to handle and let it reach room temperature before adding liquid. Put it on a soft, stable surface. Remove detachable non-glass parts only as the manufacturer directs; do not force a stuck insert or seal.

Lay out cotton swabs, the specified alcohol and a small solvent-compatible container. Work with ventilation, away from heat and flames. Keep the container out of the way of glass you have already cleaned.

Puffco permits an ISO soak for the original Peak's glass carb cap and prefers 99%. That instruction applies to the original glass cap; it does not turn every newer Puffco cap assembly into a soakable part.

For a different cap, use its stated cleaner and soak instructions. There is no universal soak time for every glass cap. Keep the separate glass in its own small container so it cannot knock against other parts.

Lift softened residue from the underside and around the openings with a clean swab. If cotton catches or the shaft does not fit, stop. Do not push a metal pick or oversized brush through a narrow glass passage.

Use a gentle wipe on a textured finish, not a polishing or scraping motion. If residue does not lift after the approved clean, ask the maker what to try next before adding an abrasive.

Rinse the separate glass thoroughly with water, following the cap maker's directions, then leave it to air-dry completely on a clean cloth. Do not reconnect it while liquid remains inside an airway.

Look through the openings in good light. If one still appears blocked, repeat the approved clean rather than forcing it open. Stop using a cap with chipped edges or visible cracks and contact the maker about replacement.
