How to Clean a Silicone Dab Mat

Move glass, tools, bottles and electronics onto a stable surface. Let the mat and anything resting on it cool before handling. Put used swabs in the trash, then lift off loose debris.

Oil Slick recommends a silicone or plastic scraper for larger deposits. Use a light touch; a knife or metal scouring pad is the wrong tool for this job.

Rinse the mat, add a small amount of mild dish soap, and work over the surface with your fingers or a soft sponge. Turn it over and clean the underside too.

Rinse away the soap thoroughly. Dulytek specifies soap-and-water cleaning for its silicone mat; Honeybee Herb gives the same starting method. You do not need a specialty cleaner for an ordinary wash.

Wash the patch again before changing cleaners. Oil Slick describes a brief ISO wipe for its pads, followed by a water rinse and complete drying, rather than an extended soak.

That is an instruction for Oil Slick's products, not permission to soak every silicone mat in alcohol. For an unknown mat or printed design, stay with its maker's care instructions. Do not use a torch, oven, sharp scraper or harsh solvent to chase a stain.

Air-dry the mat or pat it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Make sure the underside is dry before laying it on the table. Dulytek recommends hanging its mat to dry.

Check the table as well as the mat: putting a clean pad over a sticky spill just moves the problem underneath. Return glass and tools one at a time so nothing gets knocked over.

Use the mild soap and soft cloth you already have. The microfiber option below is a bulk pack, useful if you also need household cleaning cloths; it is more than one mat needs. Keep a dedicated clean cloth for drying instead of using the one that wiped up residue.
